Things To Do
Beach Bliss

Chill out at Koukounaries Beach. It's one of Greece's best-known beaches; the sand is beautiful and a fine golden colour, and the water is so clear that it's like swimming in a pool. Perfect for a refreshing dip or just floating around. The best part about this beach is that it's backed by a lush pine forest, which not only looks stunning but also gives the whole place this amazing, fresh scent. You can take a walk through the forest if you need a break from the sun, and it’s super peaceful. If you’re into water sports, you’re in luck. There are plenty of options—jet skiing, windsurfing, paddleboarding—you name it. Or, if you prefer to just chill, grab a sunbed and an umbrella and soak up the rays. After a day in the sun at this slice of paradise, check out the nearby beach bars and tavernas. They’re perfect for grabbing a cold drink or a bite to eat without having to leave the beach. The seafood is fresh and delicious!

Birder’s Paradise

Enjoy birding bliss at Strofilia Lagoon, near Koukounaries. It’s a total haven for birdwatchers and such a serene spot. Don't forget to bring your binoculars and prepare to be wowed by the variety of birds you’ll see. The lagoon is home to some really cool species. You’ll definitely want to look out for herons—they’re pretty common here and beautiful to watch as they wade through the water. Keep an eye out for kingfishers, too. These little guys are stunning with their bright blue and orange plumage, and they’re amazing hunters. Seeing one dive into the water to catch a fish is just awesome! If you’re looking for a tranquil escape, the scenery around the lagoon is gorgeous, with lush greenery and the calming sounds of the water. It’s a great spot for a quiet walk or just to sit and relax while you watch the birds.

Forest Frolic

Explore the pine forest right behind Koukounaries Beach. It's not just any forest—it’s a protected nature reserve, and it’s absolutely beautiful. You’ll love it! Start by taking a walk through the forest. The shade from the tall pines is so refreshing, especially on a hot day. And the scent, it’s like being in a natural aromatherapy session! If you're up for a bit more adventure, rent a bike and ride through the trails. It’s a fun way to see more of the forest and get a bit of exercise. While you're wandering around, keep an eye out for local wildlife. You might spot some interesting birds, or even a shy turtle or two. The forest is super peaceful, making it a perfect escape from the busy beach scene. It's also a great spot for a quiet picnic. Pack some snacks, find a nice spot, and simply enjoy the tranquility.

Saddle Up

Try horseback riding, the horses are well-trained and easy to ride, even if you’re a beginner! It’s a great way to see the natural beauty of Koukounaries from a different perspective, and a unique activity to do. There are a few local stables that offer guided rides, and it’s an experience you won’t forget. Trot through the lush forests, with a fresh pine scent all around you. The trails are beautiful, and riding through them will make you feel like you’re in a movie. The guides are super friendly and know all the best spots, so you’ll get to see some hidden gems that you might miss otherwise. But the real highlight is riding along the beach. There’s nothing quite like the feeling of the sea breeze on your face while you ride along the shoreline. The views are stunning, and it’s such a peaceful experience.
