Embark on a journey of discovery in Kalutara, Sri Lanka, where ancient traditions, breathtaking natural landscapes, and unparalleled hospitality converge along the scenic southwestern coast. Kalutara captivates visitors with its unique blend of cultural heritage -  one of the town's most iconic landmarks is the Kalutara Bodhiya, a sacred Buddhist temple housing a revered bodhi tree believed to be a sapling of the Sri Maha Bodhiya in Anuradhapura. Immerse yourself in the spiritual ambiance as you explore the temple grounds and witness devotees paying homage to this sacred site, before wandering through markets overflowing with vibrant produce and handicrafts.

Beyond its spiritual allure, Kalutara offers a haven for relaxation and adventure seekers alike. Bask in the golden rays of the sun on an idyllic beach, savour authentic Sri Lankan flavours at seaside restaurants or embark on water sports adventures, including jet skiing, kayaking and scuba diving. And if you can tear yourself away from the beach, hop on a boat ride along the Kalu Ganga River, surrounded by lush mangroves and exotic birdlife, or unwind with rejuvenating Ayurvedic spa treatments at world-class wellness resorts, the decision is yours!

They've got all the amenities you need—loungers, umbrellas, the whole shebang.  Plus, you've got the iconic Kalutara Bodhiya towering nearby—a sacred Buddhist temple with a striking white stupa. It's a sight you don't want to miss, so make sure your camera's ready! Also, it's home to the only hollow Buddhist stupa in the whole wide world.

Try The Boat Safari

You've got to do the Madu River Boat Safari and experience the natural beauty of Sri Lanka! Glide along the tranquil waters of the Madu River, surrounded by lush mangrove forests teeming with exotic flora and fauna. Keep your eyes peeled for colourful kingfishers, majestic eagles, and maybe even a crocodile! We recommend heading for an early morning or late afternoon safari for the best chances of spotting wildlife and avoiding the midday heat. After your boat safari, why not explore the nearby attractions? Check out the picturesque Induruwa Beach for some sunbathing and relaxation or visit the Kosgoda Sea Turtle Conservation Project to learn about their efforts to protect endangered sea turtles.
