A Photographer's Paradise
Head to Houmt Souk Old Town and go along one of the many twisting alleys, past whitewashed homes and shops offering pottery in a rainbow of colours. Check out the restored caravanserais (fondouks) that have been transformed into hotels and shops as you stroll around the area. Berber jewellery, fabrics, traditional shoes, brass and silverware, leather products and stacks of hand-painted ceramics are just some of the traditional handicrafts that can be found for sale in the souk streets here.
Endless Summer Vibes...
Sunbathe on Plage Sidi Maharès, one of Djerba's most well-known stretches of sand! Most of it is privately held by resorts, but a sizable section is open to the public. Spend a perfect day at the beach with your loved ones engaging in one of many water sports, such as kayaking or paddleboarding. In addition to these water sports, camel riding along the beach as the sun goes down over the Mediterranean is another luxury that will make a memorable moment!
Unleash Your Inner Child
Visit the Djerba park with your kids and spot crocodiles crawling and lounging in their enclosures. Next to the crocodile farm is the Lalla Hadria Museum dedicated to Islamic cultural heritage and art which houses an impressive collection of 1000 pieces that spans over 15 galleries! Be acquainted with traditional Tunisian handicrafts such as costumes and traditional Tunisian attire, Ceramics and religious artefacts.
Sleep In A Traditional Tunisian Houch!
Experience living like the locals! A well resorted attraction is spending a night at the houch. These cave-like chambers, which are usually part of a larger menzel or shared house, are pleasant, beautiful and typically Djerbian, and at once make you feel quiet and rested. These menzels are in the countryside, just outside of cities or towns, surrounded by orchards, olive groves and swaying palm trees. In a nutshell, it is a dream.
A Vibrant Chaos
Be part of the charged atmosphere! We recommend visiting Djerba during July to August to have the time of your life at the Ulysse Festival! Theatre shows, music events and film screenings in Houmt Souk's busy streets and quaint squares create a true party ambiance. Don't worry if you don't speak a foreign language; you'll get the vibe and enjoy it anyhow. Just blend in with the crowd and go with the flow!
