Things To Do
Fort Adventure

Spend some time in the historic Fort area—it's like a blast from the past right in the middle of the hustle and bustle. You've got these grand colonial-era buildings rubbing shoulders with sleek, modern skyscrapers. Don't forget to snap some pics of the Old Dutch Hospital—it's been jazzed up into this cool shopping and dining spot. Perfect for grabbing a bite or snagging some souvenirs. After that, take a stroll along the waterfront promenade; the views of the harbour are killer, and you might even catch a ship or two sailing by. There are plenty of benches to kick back on and soak it all in. If history's your jam, you can't skip the National Museum. It's packed with artefacts and exhibits that'll give you all the information on Sri Lanka's rich cultural heritage—the museum's housed in this jaw-dropping colonial-era building that's totally worth a peek. Best time to visit? Early morning or late afternoon when it's not too hot. And if you want to get around easy-peasy, hop on a Tuk Tuk—it's a fun little adventure in itself!

Seafront Serenity

Looking for a chill spot by the sea? Head to Galle Face Green—it's like the city's backyard, where everyone gathers for some fun and relaxation. Take a walk along the promenade and soak in those ocean views. It's the perfect spot for a leisurely stroll or a romantic evening watching the sunset. If you're feeling peckish. Galle Face Green is known for its street food scene, so make sure you grab some snacks from the vendors lining the waterfront. Think crispy isso vadey (shrimp fritters), tangy kottu roti (chopped chapati with veggies and meat) and refreshing king coconut water—it's all delicious! Don't forget to snap some pics while you're there. There's plenty of photo ops to capture the vibe of Galle Face Green. Here's a fun fact: back in the day, this place used to be a runway for seaplanes! How cool is that? If you're up for some post beach sightseeing, there are plenty of nearby attractions to explore, like the Old Parliament Building or the National Museum.

Temple Tranquility

Drop by Gangaramaya Temple—it's like a tranquil oasis in the middle of city chaos. The temple itself is a sight to behold. You've got intricate carvings, colourful statues, and ornate architecture—it's a feast for the eyes! Snap a selfie with the main shrine and the towering Buddha statues—they're impressive. Now, when you're done admiring the beauty, there's plenty to do around the temple grounds. You can explore the museum, which houses a fascinating collection of religious artefacts and antiques. Or you can check out the library, where you'll find ancient manuscripts and texts. Don't miss the exhibits on vintage cars and other vehicles. It's a cool little bonus if you're into that kind of thing! After you've had your fill of culture and history, why not take a stroll around nearby Beira Lake? It's a peaceful spot with some lovely views, perfect for a leisurely walk or a boat ride.

Soak Up Local Culture

If you're up for a little bit of hustle and bustle, then check out Pettah Market—it's like a sensory overload as the sights and sounds here are insane! You've got vendors selling everything from spices and textiles to electronics and jewelry. When it comes to things to do, you're spoiled for choice. You can wander through the narrow alleys and take in the vibrant street life, or dive into one of the covered markets and haggle for some bargains—it's all part of the fun! As for things to buy, the options are endless. You can pick up some aromatic spices, colourful saris, quirky souvenirs, or even some fresh produce if you're feeling adventurous. After you've worked up an appetite from all that shopping, grab a bite from one of the street food stalls. You'll find everything from spicy samosas to sweet treats like falooda—it's a foodie's paradise!

A History Haven

Get ready to be awed and inspired by the wonders of the past at the Colombo National Museum! Wander through grand halls filled with ancient artefacts, intricate carvings, and colourful exhibits that tell the story of this incredible island nation. One exhibit you can't miss is the regal throne of the last King of Kandy—it's a real showstopper! But that's just the beginning. Dive deeper, and you'll uncover treasures from different eras, from prehistoric relics to colonial artefacts, each offering a fascinating glimpse into Sri Lanka's past. And the best part? The museum is set within beautifully landscaped gardens, making it the perfect spot to stroll and soak in the serene atmosphere after your history lesson.
